maren goes on vacation

We had a great time in early August at Glacier Park and in Spokane. Maren got to spend time with friends and family, not to mention two dogs, a train, her own 1938 roadster, and a boat.

There could not have been a better vacation for a nearly-two-year-old.

A few highlights:

The roadster. "Dad, can I borrow the car?"

Harvesting tomatoes with Grandpa and Daddy

Mmm....Spokane tomatoes.

A walk at Glacier Park

THE TRAIN! CHOO CHOO!

Another favorite pastime: throwing rocks into the water. For a long time.

On the trail.

Rocks? Water? What is a girl to do?

Mmmm....huckleberry ice cream.

At Two Medicine Lake

At the historic Isaac Walton Inn, right next to the railyard. In Maren's humble opinion, this is the best hotel in the history of ever.

The train! It's coming!

Over there! See it? CHOO CHOO!

A little kiss for the bear.

Betsy the dog, whom Maren loves just as much as the trains.

A hug for Betsy.

(Don't tell Maren that there is a town called Elmo. We will have to move there.)

How old is Daddy?

Reading bedtime stories with Grandma.

What? Isn't this what you do with a bucket?

Rocks? Water? Check.

Showing off my first bandaid. (A 'mow' bandaid, as it has Hello Kitty on it.)

One of many tea parties at the cabin. No political implications.

Reading at the cabin: always best with cousin Jenny.

Breakfast at Knight's Diner

maren at 22 months

22 months?

Wow.

One of Maren's biggest developmental leaps lately has been her language; it seems like she adds new words every day. Some of them are crystal clear and some of them are, well, a little less so. But here's some of her current vocabulary:

choo-choo! (train - one of her great loves)
woof-woof (dog)
mow (cat)
moo (cow. Sensing a theme?)
bye-bye, mama; bye-bye, daddy (when she wants to be left alone)
milpy (milk)
wawa (water)
ni-ni (good night)
Shyooh (her cousin, Shiloh)
Shooee (her daycare friend, Zoe)
Bob (Uncle Bob!)
baa (sheep. Not to be confused with Bob.)
boat
foof (her way of saying something is hot: she then blows on it)
waf (waffles)
Elmo
poop poop and pee (both of these she announces with great fervor to anyone in the general vicinity)
potty
shoe
NO SHOE (her preference in the car)
hee (here)

She has also been talking a lot about "Sasha." Here's the thing: we have no idea who Sasha is. Maybe an imaginary friend?

Next up: vacation photos.
