presenting....

Teeth!

Two of them: the first appeared on June 7, and the next a few days later. The two top teeth appear to be on their way any minute now (please).

Maren also had a great Father's Day with her dad. He took her to breakfast after she came to church and almost got kicked out by the pastor for talking during the sermon. (Apparently she recognizes the pastor's voice and wants to talk back to her. Who knew?) Then Dad played golf while Maren got her gifts ready for him. She made him a coffee mug with her handprints and she would really, really like to help him drink from it. Or, possibly just eat the mug.

maren's review of books

Maren is becoming quite the book-reader these days. (Or, book-eater. Close enough.) Thus, we present Maren's Review of Books:

First, you need to choose a book you would like to eat. I mean, read.

It can be a tough choice sometimes.

I find that books of this size often have a pleasant, minty-fresh aftertaste.

This particular book is one of my favorites. It has a slight hint of banana. (Perhaps because I spit up on it.)

You want to give the book a really good taste. This can take awhile.

I find that Dr. Seuss has a rich bouquet and a full-bodied flavor.

If you are hard up for reading material, a scratch pad will do. It is a bit pulpy, however. "Goodnight Moon" will cleanse your palate.

What, you don't read like this? Don't judge it until you've tried it.

We hope you enjoy your summer reading as much as we are. Mmmmm....books.

fun in the sun

We finally had a chance to introduce Maren to sunshine which, as a baby born in Seattle in October, she has rarely seen thus far in her existence. So far, she is not too sure about it. It's awfully bright.

She has made great strides in her sitting and rolling abilities - she leans way, way over to grab things without (always) falling over; she rolls from front to back over and over and over again, and occasionally rolls across the room to get something really exciting, like a shoe; and she continues to enjoy just about every food she tries. Except pears. She hates pears.

Every morning she loves to have oatmeal and yogurt, which we have taken to calling "yoatmeal," and she devours it as if we might never feed her again. She loves to be tickled (especially by dad) and has recently decided to start kissing us, which involves planting her open mouth right on the mouth of the person to be kissed. It's beyond delightful. A little drooly, but delightful.

A few pictures from the past few days...

In case you are wondering, she is not always this happy. But, honestly, she's happy a lot. And smiley. And giggly.

It's pretty great.

toy joy

Today's fun moment is brought to you by Maren's Christmas present from Pat Bray. At least for today, she considers it the BEST TOY EVER.
